Patterns of light through water

Monday April 4, 2011 Day 278

Roger went down to the bakery and bought grain baguettes for breakfast. We walked around city, intending to go to the botanical gardens, but found that they were closed. So we took tram to the river, walked back up through Place de l’Europe. We at a lovely lunch there of salads and meats I was charmed by the young man who came out to romance passers-by to eat at his sidewalk restaurant, so that is how we made our decision about where to eat! As we were dining, a gentleman walked past and Roger pointed him out saying he is a chess player. It was almost 2:00, so I suggested that Roger should go ahead and leave for chess, as he needed to drop by the apartment and pick up his chess set. The four of us had dessert and then a leisurely walk back home, stopping in at the grocery store for orange juice and a few other items. We fixed iced tea and, of course, played cards and dominoes.

We had dinner at an Indian restaurant where a cat inspected us but declined to be petted. The food was passable, but that is all. While waiting for our food, Aaron and I began to examine the effects of light through our wine and water glasses, and this became one of our favorite pastimes for the rest of his stay in France.
