Bees and more bees

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 Day 42
We awoke to rain, so we spent the morning lazing about and doing laundry, then left for the grocery store to locate a few items to take on our first overnight trip out of Paris. After putting away the groceries, we went to our neighborhood park, Parc Georges Brassens. On the way we stopped at a hardware store at the end of the street where we bought some razor blades (double edge rather than the single-edge blades I was looking for) for cleaning the cooktop surface in the kitchen. We also bought some Color Catchers, which I often used in Louisiana but did not expect to find here in Europe. I just happened upon them in the store. In the park, we saw peach trees with ripening fruit, ripening grapes, and discovered some beehives which we had not realized were there. Beehives twice in three days!

In the afternoon we planned our wardrobe for our coming adventure and packed our little rolling suitcase. That turned out not to be large enough, so we added the backpack.

That afternoon I was working on my computer when a little message popped up in the corner of the computer. I blew it up to reasonable size, and at that instant, the Skype phone rang and it was Peter and Alicia! Our first Skype since arriving in Paris. I had rather forgotten about Skype and how nice it is to be able to talk to someone and look at them at the same time. We had a wonderful chat – I am sure Alicia was quite late to work this morning!
