A similarly sobering sight was to be had just over the overlook from the quai. Below was a bunch of junk, which turned out to be “homeless city,” although it was impossible to determine how many homeless were actually down there. Ugh.
From this solemn walk into spiritual darkness, we came back out into the light and walked down the Isle of Swans on a small man-made island in the Seine. At the far end of the island is a 1:4 replica of the Statue of Liberty. The island itself has no commerce on it, only a long walkway from one end to the other. It was a lovely and refreshing walk.
