Sunday, August 8, 2010 Day 39
Happy Birthday to my dear sister, Charlotte! I hope your day was great!!
It was a lovely day and we had nothing on the agenda, so I suggested an afternoon walk to a park near the Eiffel Tower in order to take some pictures. When Jane and Mary Ellen were visiting, we happened into this particular park on our way from their hotel to the Eiffel Tower. The park itself is not especially noteworthy – it is very similar to any of the scores of parks scattered across Paris which make the city so delightful. What is special about it is that it is the venue for over 100 pieces of artwork created mostly by Paris school children, each depicting the Eiffel Tower. They are imaginative, charming, and absolutely enchanting. It turns out that some of them are done by children at the Dupliex school, which is probably nearby since this area is called Dupliex. Others are done by attendees at the Atelier D’Id, which is an art workshop/studio alongside the park. A few appear to be done by professionals. I took a photo of every one of the 160 or so paintings, and posted them to my Flickr site. I created a set inside of Flickr specifically for them, and I was hoping that Flickr would let me remove them from the photostream and put them just inside the set. No dice – all my photos have to be in the photostream, then I can make sets of individual photos from the photostream. I felt that they overwhelmed my photostream, so I removed all but a dozen or so. These few accompany this blog, so you needn’t visit my Flickr page. The project had a wonderful whimsy to it – I could see that the students had put a lot of thought, and then a lot of work, into projecting their image of the Tour Eiffel into the pictures. A few were copycats of one another, and a few from one of the schools had the same styling, but overall they appeared to be directly from the imaginations of the students. I do wish I could let readers see the photos, but right now I don’t know any other way to post them and not overwhelm my photostream. Sigh. Sorry.

When Jane & I saw this with Carolyn, I was very impressed. Some of the paintings appeared to be a family effort, rather than that of one individual.
Thanks for the birthday wishes. I noticed that the pictures are posted before the identification on the blog - in the caption of one of the pictures, you mentioned some pictures that were located "at the beginning" but I didn't know at the beginning of where until many pictures later. Oh, well...
Is that other post from James Powell??? LOL!
In regard to the order in which the pictures appear vis a vis the blog - it would probably help if you read from the bottom up. I generally post the blog first, then follow up with pictures. This results in the blog at the bottom. But I often don't know exactly what pictures I wish to post until after I have finished the blog. Confusion reigns!
