Happy Halloween

Sunday, October 31, 2010 Day 123
Another lazy, rainy day. We adjusted the clocks back an hour and Roger checked football scores. Rain fell almost all day, but today it was mostly confined to a light, persistent drizzle. In the late afternoon we went out for a walk. The rain had abated by this time and a few people were out and about. The photo depicts the sun- and rain-washed streets of our quarter.

I called Daddy today and had a nice chat. I had been intending to call for several weeks, but I was afraid that the cost would be ghastly. However, I learned that our apartment phone may have free or very-low cost calls to the U.S., so I gave that a try. I won’t know the cost for a while – until our landlord gets our October bill. However much it costs, it was worth it to hear Daddy’s voice. Ninety-one and still plugging along!

We also Skyped with Alicia and Peter this evening. They gave a combination Halloween-Birthday party yesterday and had a really great time. They celebrated Caryn’s 40th birthday by soliciting note from her friends, then hung them on posters and dedicated a corner of the living room to the notes and birthday comments. One room in their house is painted orange, and they hung huge yellow triangles and a pumpkin grin and made a jack-o-lantern out of one entire wall. Neat! We got to see their cat, Sammy, who doesn’t understand video conferencing on Skype!

Actually, they PAINTED that jack-o-lantern on the wall, from what I understand. Unless she was pulling my leg when she told me about it, they painted that sucker on.

Those weren't hangings. We painted the wall directly of the jack 'o lantern!

You are right, Shelli! Alicia, are you going to leave that painted there, or is it already gone?
