This is the Arc de Triomphe which stands at one end of the Peyrou. It predates the grander one in Paris and it celebrates Louis XIV. We climbed to the top of it for Les Journées de Patrimoine earlier this month. I have decided why it is that I don't have much appreciation for these sorts of monuments, and it is that they celebrate wars and battles and generals. Note the waning moon visisble under the arch.
