Saturday April 9, 2011 Day 283
Our guests decided to take the day off from traveling, so we went to the Saturday market, which was full of vendors and packed with buyers. We bought only some fruit, some cooked items for lunch, some kiwis and some pink tulips. Something tells me you will be seeing the tulips down the road!
Lunch was falafel, some sort of fried bread, salad, bread spread with tapenade, and fruit tarts for dessert - both lemon and red fruits.
After lunch, Roger left for chess, promising to call us about times for the little tourist train through Montpellier. He called with the information that the next train would leave at 3:00, so we went down to the Comédie and hopped aboard. It took us around the historic city center, which is where our apartment is located. The trip included the Comédie, the Peyrou, the Esplanade Charles de Gaulle and several of the old streets. When we passed through the Esplanade, we drove right by the chess tables and we called out and waved to Roger. Later we walked back by the chess area and talked to him for a bit. He was not playing at the moment - he lost his last game and had to give up the board.
While we were in the Esplanade Charles de Gaulle, we saw a group of some 20 people dressed in Roman costume parading along, handing out literature announcing an upcoming performance. The king kindly waved at us.
