Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everyone.
It is so nice to be home!!! We slept late, then got up and had the last of the eggs and lardoons from before our departure. Mostly we did mundane things today, like laundry and grocery buying. I wanted to get back to painting, but was too tired, so I napped while Roger played chess. Later I went out and snapped some photos of flowers for future paintings.
Watch for this in the near future! |

Pushy people
Amazing juxtaposition of the ancient and the new.
SPQR
Street vendors, many of whom were selling sunglasses only. Does the mafia control the sales of most of the touristic items? We did see one enterprising sidewalk vendor who was selling camera tripods. Apparently the mafia doesn’t control those!
Not many blacks - not a large immigrant population, at least not in the parts which we visited.
Fewer café patrons sitting outside enjoying their coffee, a cigarette and the vista
Bustling - not as laid-back as might be expected.
Street beggars - the Italian language makes them sound whiny.
With the notable exception of the Ethiopian restaurant, we found the meals to be mediocre in Rome. Perhaps we did not know where to look.
Splendid weather, cool but sunny
