Happy Independence Day, ya’ll! I noticed a sign the other day that said the French equivalent of “Open July 4.” I was astonished that it would reference July 4 until I realized that this is a Sunday and all the sign was indicating was that the shop is open Sunday.

I rose at 10:00 again (!), a good two hours after Roger got up. We celebrated U.S. Independence Day by walking to the river and taking a photo of the Statue of Liberty which stands in the middle of the Seine.
